UMMOAELEWE

Mr: Alberto Borrás Gabarró

SPAIN MADRID

Our esteemed Sir:

We have considered it prudent to send this letter to you, considering that we thereby reduce to some degree the possibility of its being intercepted, as would undoubtedly happen if it had been addressed to certain more prominent brothers of yours.

We think that this liberty will not cause you too much annoyance if you have indeed taken an interest in our case, even without giving it excessive credit, a balanced and even-handed stance which we are obliged to praise. We have very recently returned to Spain, although we will not be in your nation for many days, and this is the first letter we write to you, interested as you are in our existence. We hope to resume our information channel, which has been confined to simple informative epistles. Tell your brothers in Barcelona that the first documents of this kind we send you from another country in Europe will probably be addressed to them,

We would also wish for the prompt and definitive recovery of the priest Enrique López Guerrero (don). You may tell him that we do not believe the trauma he suffered will give rise to future somatic complications.

On our arrival we have been able to pick up some rumours that have taken shape around us and yourselves. They involve no novelty worth analysing. Very varied versions must necessarily circulate, vaguely identifying us with other entities, and such interpretations even affect your own friends and brothers for the sole reason of having shown interest in our identity. There is no need to insist on the matter, since the vagueness of information with which we surround ourselves, the absence on our part of verifiable proofs, and the mysterious character with which you yourselves must surround all comments concerning us, must inevitably provoke a healthy distrust which, in other brothers of yours, translates into a wide scale of assessments, sometimes coloured with sarcasm, others rationalised with superstitious fear.

It cannot escape any intelligent brother of yours that such a lack of consistency may lead our own testimony to be considered truly incredible, as one of the many hypotheses that have circulated and continue to be spread, lacking any coherent and objective proof.

We have often given you to understand that it is not, in an expression familiar to you, “a game of cat and mouse”. The very nature of our stay among you demands this strategy of ours, which must give rise in you to an excess of interpretative confusion. Does this stance have the status of an end? Of course NOT. It is simply a security measure which for us is sufficient and necessary and which allows us, without adulterating the truth, to coexist with you without certain sectors of your society being aware of our genuine identity. The very doubt infiltrated among your own brothers interested in this problem may be described as functional if we accept the hypothesis of any possible future detection.

We believe you understand us if once again we urge you to maintain this precautionary stance towards us.

(Regardless of the fact that you would maintain this attitude even if we strove to convince you of our honest genetic identification).

We have learned very little about you in this long interval that has elapsed until now. Months ago we allowed ourselves to exercise a certain monitoring of information about you, trying to make it compatible with the respect your privacy deserves from us.

Our temporary absence from Spain and Portugal (an absence which we regret to inform you is now definitive) makes it difficult for us to have basic information about your thoughts expressed orally about us. Unless you state it expressly, we are not going to neutralise this warm friendship that has arisen, as it happened, between that scattered group of Spaniards and us.

We believe that this affective current could only be cut short by a manifest risk which you or we may detect arising outside your private circles, or by the definitive departure of this group of expeditionaries, which could take place at any moment if those who direct us, to whom we are subordinate, so request.

These long periods of silence which you have observed are due to a complex of causes, some of which you will rightly have presumed.

We regard this epistolary prologue as secondary, since the essential reason for this letter is the following.

With the letter we enclose two identity cards which may prove revealing and not lacking in some interest for some of your brothers.

They belong to a member (respectable in other respects) of a United States entity, spread over the whole planet Earth, which carries out a task of gathering information about us to report to its government; we have already warned you of this point on another occasion.

This agent usually operates with the first name César followed by different arbitrary surnames according to the mission entrusted (as you will see in two of the cards which we seized from him in an operation he was earlier entrusted with among Korean citizens (which did not concern us at all), he calls himself Gómez. He has also used surnames such as: Martínez, Augusto Lozano, Hardin Rock, Dumond, Fortaleza Salgado. He is a very skilful man who in some ways adopts the personality of a feeble-minded person. At present he directs section M-17, devoted to investigations into our “activities”. He is convinced that we are a group directed by a government department of the Federal Republic of Germany, contrary to his own superiors, who hold other views. In 1970 he was in charge of the surveillance of a brother of yours, Mr Francisco Mejorada, during his brief stay in the British capital, when they wrongly suspected that his journey to Great Britain was due to other reasons.

We do not believe you have anything to fear from these North American citizens, but we thought it might be interesting for you at least to know the identity of those who have occasionally carried out, or will carry out, some more or less insignificant mission of surveillance on you. They are aware at present that even in the case………….................. you freely accepted cooperation, you do not possess…………………………………. ever any help towards our identification and interception; for all these reasons we advise you not to be too alarmed. Nor need you fear us; although their obstructive work truly causes us no little trouble in our study functions.

The present documents, together with many others taken by us from these respectable officials, have not been returned to them after their reproduction, as is our custom, since their absence has not caused serious upsets to their own work functions.

You may keep them as a curious souvenir, and they may perhaps also serve you to identify him. We need not urge on you the prudent reserve with which you must surround their possession, since it could be awkward for you in certain emergencies to justify the way in which they came into your hands.

It truly saddens us that your brothers of the United States of North America waste part of their time pursuing us, when the only fruits obtained so far have been a photograph of reports of ours sent to Earth persons of Mexican, Canadian, French, Spanish and Australian nationality, references, two photographs of brothers of mine who for this reason have been obliged to leave Earth, apart from some personal effects of others without the slightest technical interest for them, while we have access not only to several of their files but to the very personal documentation carried by many of their agents.

We believe that all this pursuit is sterile, since we represent no danger whatsoever to any Oemii of Earth; we are aware, however, of the difficulty of making them understand this.

It is fair, however, to inform you that in reality very few members of their forces have received instructions to devote themselves exclusively to us.

We repeat that we do not consider it prudent for you to try to carry out an investigation of your own into these agents. After all, you must recognise that only you have been fleetingly and directly involved, and they had the obligation to subject some of you to the superficial observation of which you have been the object.

One last request: Do not make more than two indispensable copies of this letter, to inform your brothers in Barcelona and Seville.

You may keep or destroy the stolen cards; it makes no difference. The photographs may be of some use to you. Do not make more than the necessary colour or black-and-white photocopies of them. There is no need to insist on the possible risks involved in too generous a circulation of such private documents.

Receive, Mr Alberto, our kind and respectful greetings, which you will extend to Doña Matilde and your intelligent children.
